Astronomy and Astrophysics: Recent Trends and Scopes

A workshop on "Astronomy and Astrophysics: Recent Trends and Scopes" to be held at The Assam Kaziranga University, organized jointly by KU and the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, (IUCAA), Pune, on 6th May, 2017. The workshop will see a number of eminent speakers from IUCAA and Tezpur University, who will be delivering talks on recent trends and scopes in Astronomy and Astrophysics. 

Workshop on MATLAB and its Application to be held at KU from 16th-18th March 2017

The School of Engineering and Technology at Kaziranga University will be organizing a three-day workshop on 'MATLAB and its Application' from the 16th-18th of March, 2017. This workshop will be conducted by two eminent guests - Dr. Sayan Mukherjee, Professor, Shivnath Sastri College, Kolkata, and Mr. Abhishek Mallick (MS USA), ESL Technologies. The workshop will cover several important topics under MATLAB basics, such as numbers, boolean, graphs, loops, arrays and vectors as well as the Image Processing Toolbox, which includes image acquisition, operations, analysis and colour detection to name a few. The workshop will also include basic assignments and a mini project to help in better grasp and understanding.

On the 16th of February 2017, Kaziranga University witnessed an enlightening talk by distinguished Professor Dr. Bijoy Bordoloi of the Department of Computer Management and Information Systems, Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, USA. Dr. Bordoloi delivered an interesting lecture on Data Analytics to the students and faculty of the School of Business and the School of Social Sciences at Kaziranga University.

Dr. Bordoloi's talk focused on the increased usage of Big Data and Analytics in all walks of life, and the tremendous opportunities it offers to the students of Management Sciences. He commented that the future belongs to a world of interconnected devices that will generate data at tremendous velocity and volume, the power of which can be only harnessed by building expertise in data mining and analytics. Addressing the students, he stressed on the importance of Big Data and Analytics in the field of Social Sciences as well, while also appreciating the significance and need for Social Sciences in today’s world.

Dr. Bijoy Bordoloi, who has his roots in the town of Jorhat, completed his Masters in Economics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and then an MBA from California State University, USA. Subsequently, he attained his Ph.D. in Business Management from Indiana University, USA. He has more than 50 publications in various international academic journals and conferences in the field of Management Information Systems.

This session was an incredible learning experience for the students of KU, who not only learned about the importance of Data Mining and Analytics, but were also made aware of its contribution in all domains of life.


Kaziranga University celebrates 3rd winter fest - Talent Tantra 2017

The 8th of January saw the conclusion of one of the most-awaited celebrations in the region - Kaziranga University’s annual winter fest, ‘Talent Tantra 2017’. Not only did it showcase the skills and talents of the youth of the North-East through various competitions and events, the fest also featured an incredible artist line-up of Mo & the Shooting Stars, Parikrama, Angaraag ‘Papon’ Mahanta and Vishal-Shekhar, on the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th of January respectively.

The artists, who graced the occasion with their presence, definitely added much grandeur and pomp to the celebrations. Papon, addressing the crowd, expressed his heartfelt gratitude and applauded the Pro-Chancellor of Kaziranga University, Shri Basant Khetan, for being a true ‘son of the soil’, giving so much back to the region, especially in the form of one of the best career universities in the North East.

Talent Tantra 2017 included a plethora of diverse events and shows, which involved many distinguished faces from around the country. Dr. Uddhab Bharali, the renowned Assamese innovator was one of the guest speakers at the event, as was Indrajeet Bhuyan, the youngest cyber security expert from the North-East.

Remarkable events also include an astounding military dog show by the Assam Rifles Dog Training Centre conducted by Colonel Samuel, and an interesting Arms exhibition by the Para Special Forces of the Indian Army, a unit tasked with missions such as special operations, direct action, hostage rescue and counter-terrorism.  The students of KU were also privileged to hear from Colonel Ashok Bhuyan himself about a career in the armed forces. Kaziranga University is thankful to Major General Rajiv Mishra for his unending support in making this collaboration with the Indian Army possible.

Rangmanch, the skit competition was mentored by noted members of the Assamese Film Fraternity including Manjula Baruah, Hemanta Das, Prerana Barbarooah and Sanjeev Borgohain. This event was opened by a group of young, differently-abled children, representing the NGO ‘Prerna’ from Jorhat, whose play was based on the theme of patriotism. Another major event was Winter Runway, the fashion show, which saw noted guest judges such as model Jantee Hazarika, Mr. India 2015 finalist Saagar Gera, designers Payal Chadha and J&Sasha, and fashion consultant Anu Merton Jha.

Organized by the student body, under the able guidance of the young and dynamic Director of Kaziranga University, Ms. Rainy Khetan, Talent Tantra 2017 was a grand success which set a benchmark for more to come. Ms. Khetan not only thanked the students who put their heart and soul into organizing the event, but also commended the all the participants, guests, media, sponsors as well as the entire KU family for their enthusiasm and support.

With an aim of empowering students and encouraging them to take initiative, Talent Tantra 2017 has helped hone their skills and enabled them for brighter futures.

KU to celebrate 3rd Convocation on 20 Dec, 2016

This is for general information to all concerned that the Third Convocation of The Assam Kaziranga University will be held at 10.00 hrs on 20th December 2016 in the University campus. Candidates qualified for award of degrees upto October 2016, may apply for participation in the Convocation. The candidates willing to participate in the convocation are required to confirm their participation by sending the filled in prescribed format available on the website along with the required fee to be paid in form of Demand Draft drawn in favour of North Eastern Knowledge Foundation A/C No. 32859481962 payable at Jorhat. The last date for submission of application form is 10th December, 2016.

The candidates who are unable to attend the Convocation personally may also apply for their degrees in Absentia and their certificates will be sent by Registered Post after the Convocation in their respective addresses mentioned in the application form.

Annual Sports'2016'

"Annual Sports Day/Week of Kaziranga University was be held from March 4 &5 at the University Stadium which was participated by the Students, Teaching and Non-teaching staffs of the University.The day kicked off with the arrival of Vice Chancellor. Assam Agricultural University ,chief guest of the event, followed by a felicitation ceremony. The day saw various sporting events and games like cricket, football, basketball, tennis, volleyball, etc followed by a cultural programme to end the event."


Sing With Stars

With a motive to create musical awareness among the youth of Assam to choose music as a career, the MBA students of Kaziranga University conceptualized a reality program called “SING WITH STARS”. This program facilitated the budding singers to have a hands-on experience and training under the guidance of singers like JP Das, Bhupen Uzir, Santa Uzir, Diganta Bharati and Zubeen Garg. The Audutions started at various locations across Assam, viz., 20th December at Dibrugarh, 21st December at Jorhat, 23rd December at Tezpur, 24th December at Guwahati, 27th December at Bongaigaon and 28th December at Barpeta in 2015. The selected Top 100 had undergone a musical workshop held from 3rd-7th January 2016 at the University campus. Amongst them, top 10 was selected during the workshop who competed in the Grand Finale to held on 9 January 2016 in the gracious presence of singing sensation Zubeen Garg.

The top 10 finalists of the “Sing with the Stars” competed live to get the decisive winners. The top 3 winners of Sing With Stars are INDRANI TALUKDAR 1st Position, PRATYAKSHI KALITA 2nd Position and MAYURPONGKHI CHETIA 3rd Position. The judgement was passed by a jury of noted singers and musicians of the Assamese music industry like Diganta Bharati, J P Das, Bhupen Uzir, Santa Uzir, Amarjyoti Deka, Dipak Talukdar and Jayanta Nath. The prize distribution ceremony was a memorable moment for the winners who received the certificates and prizes from the Hon’ble Chief Guest present at the ceremony, amidst huge accolades and admiration from the audience. The top 3 winners of the Grand Finale received award money of amount Rs 50,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. The top 10 will now record a Music Album wholely sponsored by Kaziranga University, Jorhat.
