Workshop on 'Hands on Training on Techniques of Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics

Workshop on 'Hands on Training on Techniques of Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics for the Post Graduate students' jointly organised by the Institutional Biotech Hub, Sponsored by DBT, Cotton College and dept of chemistry, School of basic sciences, KU during 28-30 April,2016.


The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Prabodh Bora, State Coordinator, Biotech Hub.In his inaugural talk, Dr Bora addressed the participants on Genomic DNA extraction from blood and characterization using analytical tools like electrophoresis, sds page, etc. He emphasized on learning various skills like technical skills, communicating skills, ethical responsibility and importance of skilled persons in todays competitive world. 22 students from different institutes including Kaziranga University participated in the 3 days workshop. It provided the participating students the skills needed for for future research participation at the graduate level and for jobs in biotechnological labs and companies.  At last, Dr Saranga Patgiri, Coordinator, Bio Tech Hub, Cotton College and Dr J K Sarmah, Dean School of Basic Sciences, Kaziranga University distributed the certificates to the participating students for successfully completing the workshop.


Kaziranga University Holds Dare to Compete Quiz Competition

Kaziranga University held its second edition annual Quiz Show “Dare to Compete” on March 30, 2016 at its campus in Jorhat. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Sunil Rai, Vice Chancellor of the University. The programme witnessed the presence of invited guest and participants from JEC Jorhat, Sivasagar Commerce College, Kakojan College, Jorhat Law College, DCB Girl’s College, Jorhat and also participants from Kaziranga University amidst faculties, students and staff members of the University present at the occasion. More than 100 students participated to compete through 4 levels of the quiz competition namely Signum Idem (logo identification), Walk the Task (Checking the intellectual, general aptitude and memory), Artsy Craftsy (Logo collage and tagline out of scrap newspaper) and Bumble Stumble (brain teaser). Mrinmoy Das of Jorhat Engineering College bagged the 1st prize, Vishesh Kejriwal of Kaziranga University bagged the 2nd prize and Abhiskek Agarwal of Sivasagar Commerce College bagged the 3rd prize. While the participants to win consolation prize were   Anshul Goyal of Kaziranga University, Md. Mahmadoor Rahman of Jorhat Law College, Mudit Chandak of Kaziranga University, Saurab Chaudhuri of Jorhat Engineering College and Kasturi Pusty of DCB Girl’s College, Jorhat.


Managment Lessons by IIM Kashipur Professors to Kaziranga University MBA Students

A guest lecture cum interaction session was held at Kaziranga University on 4th April 2016 with students and faculties of School of Business. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Dwarika Prasad Uniyal and Dr.Rajat Sharma from IIM-Kashipur. The event was graced by the students and faculties of the University.

Dr.Dwarika Prasad Uniyal delivered his lecture on the topic “ Retail management and the changing face of shopping and shoppers “. He deliberated on the impact of technology on the evolution of modern consumers and critically analysed the inequalities in gender perspectives in shopping. The use of live examples in how people shop and implicit humour engaged the students and faculties alike and the session was augmented by many inquisitive questions from students. At the end,  he also managed to motivate the students to become a campuspreneur by making them realise the opportunities available and the source of funds available through crowdsourcing.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rajat Sharma spoke extensively on “Social Media Marketing “ and he emphasised about the need and relevance of  social media in present day marketing process. He took the help of recent information and relevant examples from his research and explained how to use social media effectively for promoting a brand. He also talked about strategies to engage a wide range of audiences and to amplify the brand message. Lastly, he encouraged students to use Linked In and Twitter which can effectively increase online presence and visibility.


Indian Civil Services Coaching Classes to start soon at Kaziranga University

Kaziranga University has signed a MoU with Mr. Avinash Dharmadhikari, Former IAS and Founder of Chanakya Mandal Pariwar on April 21, 2016 at its campus in Jorhat. The event was graced by Shri Solanki Vishal Vasant, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Jorhat, Assam in the auspicious presence of Shri Basant Khetan, Pro Chancellor, Kaziranga University, Dr. PK Mishra, President, NEKF, Dr. Sunil Rai, Vice Chancellor, Kaziranga University along with faculties and students of the university. With an intention to provide and facilitate Indian Civil Services coaching to its students, apart from the regular courses in order to prepare its students to build their careers in Indian Civil Services and other competitive exams. The MoU signing ceremony was followed by a lecture session by Mr. Dharmadhikari where he spoke serving India, North East & Assam through career opportunities in civil services and other exams.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Dharmadhikari said “This region has got immense potential to produce IAS officers and we should prepare our students to face the Civil Services exams. Every institute in this region should provide its students with such coaching facilities. And by doing so, the numbers will significantly increase in the coming years”.

Shri Solanki Vishal Vasant, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Jorhat also said “Chanakya Mandal Pariwar in collaboration with Kaziranga University will provide the students of Northeast a platform to prepare and compete in Civil Services exams. Students go to Delhi to take up various coaching classes for Civil Services due to lack of proper facilities and coaching centres in northeast. This venture of Chanakya Mandal Pariwar and Kaziranga university will provide specific courses for Civil Services and it will be open to all the students of this region. Anyone can take up the course and get trained by Existing Civil Services Cadres and Retired Officers. I myself will be a part of the programme and will provide training to students”.

Kaziranga University is leading the way to provide such platforms to students of the region under the guidance and support of Shri Avinash Dharmadhikari of Chanakya Mandal Pariwar. The University will jointly very soon start Civil Service courses in its UG and PG curriculum.


Kaziranga University Wins Competition Success Review Excellence Award

Kaziranga University has bagged the “Top Excellence in Education” Award by Competition Success Review Awards 2016 during the Award giving ceremony held on April 24, 2016 in Delhi. Kaziranga University and IIM Shillong are the 2 institutes from Northeast to have been recognized and awarded in Educational Excellence on a National Level by CSR Awards 2016 amongst top 51 premiere institutes in India. The award was received by Dr. Sunil Kumar Rai, Vice Chancellor Kaziranga University on behalf of the University at Le Meriden Hotel, New Delhi on Sunday Night during the ceremony.

ICSI opens Study Centre at Kaziranga University

During an Investor Awareness Program held on 25th April, 2016 at the Kaziranga University, the Institutes of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) inaugurated and opened its study centre at the University Campus. The centre was inaugurated CS Biman Debnath, Chairman of Managing Committee, ICSI Guwahati Chapter in the presence of Chiranjib Sarma Roy, Member  ICSI Guwahati Chapter,  Dr. P K Mishra, President NEKF and Dr. Sunil Rai, Vice Chancellor, Kaziranga University. The program was witnessed by the distinguished guests, faculty members and students of School of Business, Kaziranga University.

Speaking at the occasion, CS Biman Debnath introduced The Institutes of Company Secretaries of India to the students and pointed out the gap between the demand and supply of CS in Northeast. He also said that more members should be introduced to CS course in Northeast.


Civil Defence Training for Villagers by Kaziranga University and District Civil Defence Department, Jorhat

With a motive to create more awareness and minimise loss by natural calamities, Kaziranga University along with District Civil Defence Department, Jorhat conducted a Civil Defence Training cum demonstration workshop on May 4, 2016 at Koraikhowa LP School, Koraikhowa, Jorhat. A recent tragic accident which happened at the Koraikhowa village took the life of a villager by lightning strike leaving the villagers at a state of confusion and grief. Hence, this workshop was primarily conducted to create awareness and preparedness to survive a disaster or at the time of an emergency.


Research In-House Symposium Held at Kaziranga University

The first Research In-House Symposium of Kaziranga University was held on May 6, 2016 at the University Campus in Jorhat. The symposium showcased the Research Initiatives which have started and which are to be taken up at the University. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. Sourav Baruah, Head of Geo-Science Division, CSIR- NEIST, Jorhat. The programme was attended by the Dr. Sunil Rai, Vice Chancellor, Kaziranga University, invited guests, faculties and students of the University.

During the symposium, Dr. Baruah spoke extensively on seismology and topics related to seismic activity zones of northeast India. He laid special emphasis on research and studies on seismology as northeast is an earthquake prone region. The symposium was followed by a Poster Presentation competition where the poster by Mr. Indranuj Hazarika a student of Department of Civil Engineering, Kaziranga University was adjudged as the Best Poster during the event.


Kaziranga University now UGC Compliant

The Assam Kaziranga University has now become University Grants Commission (UGC) Compliant within 4 years of its inception. The compliance has also been appropriately marked on the UGC website. Achieving UGC Compliance in such a short period has been owing to the patronage and blessings of Shri Murli Dhar Khetan, Chancellor of Kaziranga University, sustained efforts of Shri Basant Khetan, Pro-Chancellor of Kaziranga University, mentorship of Dr. Prashanta Kumar Mishra, President of NEKF, guidance of Dr. Sunil Rai, Vice-Chancellor of Kaziranga University and sincere hardwork of the University staff team. The quality levels achieved by the University in this short journey are commendable as the university have earned 100% placements of its pioneering Engineering BTech programmes and MBA programmes continuously since last 3 years. Such a feat has been possible also due to strong support of Jorhat District Administration and sister academic institutions and dear citizens of Jorhat.


IBM to start High End Career Oriented Programmes for Students of Northeast with Kaziranga University

For the first time in North East, on a revolutionary move, Kaziranga University in collaboration with IBM are all set to introduce IBM’s High End Career Oriented Programmes for the students of North East India. The initiative has been introduced by Mr. Philip Tasker, Program Director, IBM Systems and Technology Group (STG) University Program, POWER Academic Initiative Lead, STG, IBM on 17 May, 2016 at Kaziranga University during an interaction with the Faculty and students of the university. Also present at the occasion was Mr. Lalit Yagnik, Co- Founder & CEO, Skill Gap Solution Former Technical Director Head, IBM (Asia Pacific), Singapore. This will be the first of its kind in this region where a leading Global IT Company will start its technological programmes for the IT Students of NE.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Tasker said “We are excited about our association with Kaziranga University. IBM and Kaziranga University will certainly make contributions in the progress of the region”. Mr. Yagnik also said that this programme will be a catalyst in bringing up standards of IT and ITS applications which is highly needed, now that Guwahati has been named as a smart city”.

IBM has designed the course and the course delivery will be jointly done by Kaziranga University Faculties and resource persons from IBM and its approved partners. This kind of programme will increase the opportunity for bright IT students from North East to get high end jobs in IBM or its clients companies. A student who undergoes this programme will have the advantage of being 3 years ahead at the entry level. This programme will prepare a student to work on latest softwares and practices of IBM.
