Students Achievement

Two BTech (Computer Science and Engineering) final year students have worked on applied cryptography under the supervision of Dr. Monowar H Bhuyan, HOD, Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Prof.AmarjyotiGoswami, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology. As outcome, they have designed a multi-level cryptographic protocol for two party key exchange and accepted their protocol for publication by the prestigious ninth IEEE International Conference on Contemporary Computing, August 11-13, 2016 at JIIT, Noida. This conference is jointly organized every year since 2008 by the Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida, India and the University of Florida, Gainesville, USA. It focuses on topics that are of contemporary interest to computer and computational scientists and engineers. The details of accepted paper is given below.

First Salters’ Chemistry Camp in Northeast

To be organised by CSIR-NEIST, Royal Chemistry India Foundation’s (Royal Society of Chemistry UK) & The Assam Kaziranga University in Jorhat

For the first time in Northeast India, The CSIR- North East Institute of Science & Technology, Jorhat in collaboration with Royal Chemistry India Foundation’s (part of Royal Society of Chemistry, UK) and The Assam Kaziranga University, Jorhat is organizing the residential Salters Camps for Class IX students from July 11 to July 13, 2016 at CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat and Kaziranga University, respectively. Altogether 60 Sixty students from 15 government schools/less privileged schools from around Jorhat will participate in this Camp. This will enable students to participate in the fun of Chemistry and motivate them to develop both awareness of and a long-term interest in the subject through an actionpacked programme. Students will have hands-on practical activities in Institute labs, exciting chemical demonstrations and the chance to meet like-minded students including a taste of university life staying in the Kaziranga University campus. The main highlight is that the Camp activities will be delivered in local language i.e. Assamese. The Salter’s Camps will have the coordination and contribution of Mr Partha Paul, Scientist, NEIST and Dr Jayanta K Sarmah, Prof and Dean, School of Basic Sciences, Kaziranga University. This programme is intended to light a spark of interest and enthusiasm among young students of this region for the future study of chemistry.

Kaziranga University Celebrates Second International Yoga Day 2016

The Assam Kaziranga University celebrates the Second International Yoga Day on June 21, 2016 at its campus in Jorhat. The employees of the University comprising of staff members and faculties performed asanas to promote yoga as a means of healthy and disciplined life. The programme began with prayer and reciting vedic hymns as a part of warmup session before the asanas began. Various asanas were performed under the guidance of Mr. Randhir Phukan, Assistant Professor, School of Business, Kaziranga University. Those present at the occasion got a chance to know how yoga embodied the unity of mind and body. The programme ended with a vote of thanks  and everyone took a resolution to practice yoga everyday to lead a healthy life.

National Thematic Workshop on Advances in Nanostructured Materials Applications and Perspectives (ANMAP) 2016 at Kaziranga University

Kaziranga University hosted the National Thematic Workshop on Advances in Nanostructured Materials: Applications and Perspectives (ANMAP) 2016 for the first time in collaboration with UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research, Kolkata Centre. The 2 days workshop conducted on June 1 and June 2, 2016 was held at the Assam Kaziranga University, Jorhat. The inaugural ceremony witnessed the gracious presence of Dr. PK Mishra, President NEKF; Dr. Sunil Rai Vice- Chancellor Kaziranga University; Dr. AK Sinha, Director UGC-DAE CSR; Prof. D Ramaiah, Director NEIST; Dr. D Das, Centre Director UGC-DAE CSR, Kolkata centre; Prof. Arun Chattopadhyay, Professor IIT Guwahati; Prof. P K Iyer, IIT Guwahati; Dr. R C Baruah, Emeritus Scientist, NEIST Jorhat; Dr. D Dutta, Chief Scientist, NEIST Jorhat ; Prof. S K Bhattacharjee, Kaziran University; Prof. AK Pal Jadavpur University; Prof S K Dey, IACS Kolkata; Prof. Jayanta K Sharma, Convenor, ANMAP-2016, Dean School of Basic Sciences KU; Dr. Souvik Chatterjee, UGC-DAE CSR, Kolkata centre; Dr. Amar Jyoti Goswami, Dean School of Engineering & Technology of the University along with invited dignitaries, guests, faculty, staffs and students from different universities and institutions of the country. The inaugural session saw Dr. Sunil Rai addressing the gathering with his welcome speech. While the vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Jayanta K Sharma, Convenor, ANMAP-2016, Dean School of Basic Sciences KU.

The 2 days workshop was a package of series of talks by invited speakers and scientists from UGC-DAE CSR and many other universities and research centres of India. Seminar presentations on Nano Technology and related field saw participation from organizations like UGC-DAE CSR – (Koktala Centre, Mumbai centre, Indore Centre, Kalpakkam Node), Indian Association for Cultivation of Science (IACS)- Kolkata, Jadavpur University, IIT Guwahati, Tezpur University, Pune University, Dibrugarh University, NEIST Jorhat, Rajiv Gandhi University Arunachal Pradesh, IASST Guwahati and Kaziranga University. A poster presentation on Nano Technology and related fields of study was also held on June2, 2016 as a part of the national workshop. Dr. A Saha of UGC-DAE CSR Kolkata Centre praised the organizing committee during the valedictory session for holding this workshop. 216 participants from different universities and research institutes across India participated in the workshop which included faculties, research scholars, PG students.

This national event aims at bringing scientists and industrial experts together to spread fundamental knowledge and technological developments and advances in applications and the future directions of nano structured materials in order to explore and create new products, technologies and services into the markets. The Assam This workshop provided an ideal platform to the researchers, academicians, engineers, as well as industry professionals in order to interact and exchange new ideas, present their findings and have intellectual deliberations on emerging trends of nanosciences. The workshop paved the way for different institutes and researchers to have collaborative research proposals with UGC-DAE CSR in areas of common interest.


Kaziranga University Shines at 40th National Armwrestling Championship 2016

On a victorious note, Mr. Jaspal S.P. Matharu, Hostel Superintendent, Kaziranga University bagged the 3rd Position in Men’s 110+ Kg Category at the recently held 40th National Armwrestling Championship 2016. The Championship was held from 20 May to 24 May 2016 at GH Raisoni Polytechnic, Shradha Park, Hingna-Wadi Link Road, MIDC in Nagpur, Maharashtra. By winning this, he has brought laurels to the state by beating other states in the championship. As many as 30 participants from Assam participated in the game. The 1st Position was bagged by Mr. Harpreet Singh from Punjab and the 2nd Position was bagged by Mr. Arjun Singh from Uttarakhand.

Workshop on 'Hands on Training on Techniques of Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics

Workshop on 'Hands on Training on Techniques of Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics for the Post Graduate students' jointly organised by the Institutional Biotech Hub, Sponsored by DBT, Cotton College and dept of chemistry, School of basic sciences, KU during 28-30 April,2016.


The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Prabodh Bora, State Coordinator, Biotech Hub.In his inaugural talk, Dr Bora addressed the participants on Genomic DNA extraction from blood and characterization using analytical tools like electrophoresis, sds page, etc. He emphasized on learning various skills like technical skills, communicating skills, ethical responsibility and importance of skilled persons in todays competitive world. 22 students from different institutes including Kaziranga University participated in the 3 days workshop. It provided the participating students the skills needed for for future research participation at the graduate level and for jobs in biotechnological labs and companies.  At last, Dr Saranga Patgiri, Coordinator, Bio Tech Hub, Cotton College and Dr J K Sarmah, Dean School of Basic Sciences, Kaziranga University distributed the certificates to the participating students for successfully completing the workshop.
