Former BARC Scientist gives Success Formula to Kaziranga University Students

A motivational lecture was held at Kaziranga University on March 18, 2016, for the students of School of Basic Science. Professor Jai Pal Mittal, Padma Shri, reknowned Scientist, DAE Raja Ramanna Fellow of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and Distinguished Professor National Academy of Sciences, addressed the students as the key note speaker and delivered an inspirational talk to motivate the students for taking up Basic Science as a path for career. The event also witnessed the gracious presence of Dr. D. Ramaiah, Director, CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, Dr. Prashanta Kumar Mishra, President North East Knowledge Foundation, Dr. Sunil Rai, Vice Chancellor, Kaziranga University, faculties, students of Kaziranga University.

Speaking at the occasion, Professor Mittal said, “We should not overlook Basic Sciences over Engineering or other career oriented programmes. Basic Science is as much important as other programmes. We surrounded by elements of Basic sciences, from morning till evening, we are dependent on products like toothpastes, soaps, coldrinks, etc which are products of chemistry. Therefore we must lay special emphasis on Basic Sciences and give equal importance and take it up as our career”.

CGM State Bank of India Gives Management Mantra to Kaziranga University Students

A motivational lecture was held at Kaziranga University on March 18, 2016, for it’s management students. Mr PVSLN Murty, CGM State Bank of India, North East addressed the students as the key note speaker and delivered an inspirational talk to motivate the students for achieving success in their careers. The event was attended by Shri Basant Khetan, Pro Chancellor, Kaziranga University, Dr. Prashanta Kumar Mishra, President North East Knowledge Foundation, Dr. Sunil Rai, Vice Chancellor, Kaziranga University, faculties, students and other officials from SBI were also present to grace the ocassion.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Murty said,”No achievement in this world has come without any effort. Nothing is impossible and there is nothing which we cannot achieve. We must dare to dream big, only then we can achieve big despite all apprehensions”. He stressed more on personality development and corporate conduct. “Unless and until a person develops his/her personality, it is impossible to achieve a target”, Murti said.

Dr. Prashanta Kumar Bordoloi, Professor and Head of Department (Civil Engineering), School of Engineering & Technology of this University has been selected as a speaker at International Conference on Environmental Science & Technology 2016 by the prestigious American Academy of Sciences to be held from June 6-10, 2016 at Houston, Texas in USA. The American Academy of Sciences Conference jury has selected Dr. Bordoloi for his abstract entitled "Sustainable River bank Erosion Management by Soft Engineering Approach: A Case Study of the Brahmaputra" which aptly fits the subjects of issues and concerns over environmental discussion at the conference.

The objective of the International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology is to provide a major interdisciplinary forum for presenting new approaches from relevant areas of environmental science, to foster integration of the latest developments in scientific research into engineering applications, and to facilitate technology transfer from well-tested ideas into practical products, waste management, remedial processes, and ecosystem restoration. Prof. Prashanta Kumar Bordoloi To represent Kaziranga University

Prof. Prashanta Kumar Bordoloi, Professor and Head of Department (Civil Engineering), School of Engineering & Technology of this University has been selected as a speaker at 4th AFRICAN REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON IRRIGATION AND DRAINAGE (ARCID) organised by The Egyptian National Committee for Irrigation and Drainage (ENCID) to be held from April 26 to April 28, 2016, at Aswan in Egypt. The ENCID jury has selected Prof. Bordoloi for his abstract entitled “Agricultural Land and Water Management for Sustainability under Climate Variability” which aptly fits the subjects of issues and concerns over environmental discussion at the conference.

Egypt joined the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) in the year 1950 as a founder member country. The Egyptian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (ENCID) is a semi-governmental entity affiliated to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. The members of the National Committee are Senior Government Engineers, Professors of Engineering in universities, research institutes and research centers. The National Committee has 40 members including the Chairman and the Secretary. The Secretary is responsible for implementing the decisions of the National Committee. So far, two IEC meetings (the 19th IEC meeting - Cairo, 1968, and the 47th IEC meeting - Cairo, 1996), one Congress (the 16th International Congress on Irrigation and Drainage - Cairo, 1996), one Afro-Asian Regional Conference (the 6th Afro-Asian Regional Conference - Cairo, 1987), and lately one African Regional Conference (First African Regional Conference on Drainage – Cairo, 2004) have been organized by the Egyptian National Committee.

Indian IETF Capacity Building Program at Kaziranga University

Kaziranga University hosted the Indian Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Capacity Building Program held at the university campus on 28 Feb 2016. The Program was conceived by the Internet Society (ISOC) Kolkata Chapter and approved by DeitY, Government of India. The event was attend by Dr. Mr. Abhijan Bhattacharjee of TCS Innovation Lab Kolkata; Mr. Anand Raje VP-Membership ISOC Kolkata Chapter; Dr. Indrajit De, IICB Program Chair. The event was inaugurated in the gracious presence of Dr. Sunil Rai, Vice Chancellor, Kaziranga University, Dr. Prashanta Kumar Mishra, President, North Eastern Knowledge Foundation and other dignitaries and faculties of the University.

Dr. Indrajit De, IICB Program Chair said “It is important to generate awareness about IETF because IETF generates and governs Internet Protocols”. He further added that the capacity building program is specially designed to focus more on creating new internet development by understanding what internet protocols are.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Abhijan Bhattacharjee, the key note speaker for the program said “The Indian IETF Capacity Building (IICB) Program is an attempt to increase the lower participation of Indians, corporate in the International Internet standard making process and specifically in IETF with an objective to empower Internet professionals by broadening their experience and enabling their participation in open Internet standards development.” He also spoke about providing opportunities for Fellows to participate in the global Internet ecosystem and to interact and engage with the broader Internet engineering community.

Kaziranga University is leading the effort to provide the students of School of Computing Sciences (SCS) and the School of Engineering Technology (SET) a platform to help its students understand the importance of Internet protocols. The university has organized this program with a motive to attempt to increase participation of its students in the International Internet standard making process with an objective to empower them by broadening their experience and enabling their participation in open Internet standards development.

TCS Pool Campus Placement Drive Held at Kaziranga University

As part of University Social Responsibility, Kaziranga University recently conducted a pool campus placement drive on 10 February 2016 for Tata Consultancy Services in an attempt to bring academia industry closer for the final year students of all the regional colleges in and around Jorhat and nearby cities. As many as 400 students from 29 colleges across Jorhat and its neighbouring districts participated in the event. Out of which 253 were selected for the HR round. The selection process included aptitude test, HR round, group discussion and personal interview.

The programme was conducted by the Placement Cell of Kaziranga University. Various officials from TCS and Kaziranga University were present to properly drive the placement process. Ms. Sreetama Dutta, an official of TCS said that every year TCS conducts such pool campus placement drives to search for talents among the budding graduates. “We are happy to see such great number of participants today. Kaziranga University has done a great job in providing us the platform to hold this placement drive. At the same time it is also providing a career path to most students of this region who belong to government colleges where placements drives rarely happen”, said Sreetama Dutta.

Kaziranga University is leading the effort to give the final year graduating students of this region a chance to have a firsthand experience of a placement drive. Our Career counselling programmes which are also a part of our University Social Responsibility lays special emphasis on empowering these students by imparting industry ready skills, which enabled them to get good placements in the off campus drive.

Assam Forum of Great Britain and Kaziranga University discuss concerns over Economic State of Northeast.

During a recent talk held at Kaziranga University on 8 February 2016, by Dr. Jitendralal Borkakoti, Chairman and Chief Convenor, Assam Forum Great Britain, UK, serious concerns related to the economic conditions of Assam in particular and Northeast in general were discussed. Dr. Borkakoti has been actively lobbying with the Government of India on issues of serious concerns related to Assam. He has been working on the ways for active development of the state of Assam. Various conferences has been organized under the guidance and support of Dr. Borkakoti at different places to shape ideas on economic development with active participation by experts related to this field and have submitted recommendations to Government of India for perusal and disposal.

Kaziranga University in on the process to pave ways for integrating with the Assam Forum of Great Britain to work closely for the greater cause of Assam. Both the organizations will work on ways to point out the hindrances leading to economic backwardness of Northeast India.

Kaziranga University PhD Inaugural Program

Kaziranga University hosted the inauguration program for Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) programmes for School of Social Sciences, School of Basic Sciences, School of Computing Sciences, School of Engineering & Technology, School of Business on 22 Jan 2016, at its campus. The ceremony was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Mihir Kanti Chaudhuri, Vice Chancellor, Tezpur University in the gracious presence of Chancellor Shri M.D Khetan, Vice Chancellor Dr. Sunil Rai, President, NEKF Dr. P.K.Mishra and dignitaries like Dr. Swapan K Pramanik, Former Vice Chancellor, Vidyasagar University; Dr. M.K. Padmanabhan, Director of India Centre for Research and Innovation of Virginia Tech, USA; Dr. Ashok Ullal, Prof. Emeritus, Reutlingen School of Business, Germany; Dr. Subrata Borgohain, Prof. Petroleum Technology, Dibrugarh University.

Speaking at the occasion, Chief Gueast, Prof. (Dr.) Mihir Kanti Chaudhuri, Vice Chancellor, Tezpur University said, “Research is the base of any higher education”. He further added that without research, there is no meaning of any higher education and educational institutes or universities for that matter.

The ceremony marked the induction and enrolment of 30 PhD students for various programmes. This was attended by the students and faculties of Kaziranga University. The preliminary course work seminars and school wise induction is scheduled on 23rd and 24th January 2016.

First Time in Northeast: Business Simulation for MBA Students

The MBA students of Kaziranga University attended a Business Simulation workshop conducted by Dr. Ashok N Ullal, CEO, German Simulation from Stuttgart Germany. This is the first ever Business Simulation workshop for management students conducted in northeast India. The week long workshop which started on 18th January 2016, concluded on 23 January 2016.

Simulations are a fun way to learn as it involves learning takes place on the affective and behavioural dimensions as well as on the cognitive dimension. The experience needs to be structured to some degree; relevant learning objectives need to be specified and the conduct of the experience needs to be monitored. With iBizSim student understands how different business functions play vital role in the performance of a company and how they influencing each other.

The whole workshop on simulation acted as a scientific tool to mirror business situations that forced the MBA students of this university to think independently developing confidence and leadership qualities in them. International Business Simulations referred to as iBizSim by German Simulations is a learning simulation which has given the students of this university unlimited opportunities to practice their business skills until they achieve mastery. Business environment today is highly variable and uncertain.

Kaziranga University uses a wide variety of pedagogies that involves experiential learning such as live case studies, global immersion programmes, international academic collaboration projects, live assignments, internships, etc. However, among these simulation is the only method where student’s experiential learning can be structured.

Sriram, Executive Director, Great Lakes Institute of Management, Professor Emeritus, Member of Management. Committee – CII FICCI ASSOCHAM, AIMA, NHRD; Prof. R.S. Vyas, Founder & Chairman, Techno India NJR Institute of Technology. During the strategic meeting, the university laid down special emphasise to build on the University’s long tradition of academic freedom with global industry exposure while fostering a culture in which innovation plays an important role. The key motive is to set up a team of international dignitaries for planning and execution of international moves to take Kaziranga University to the next level. This Plan covers the strategic period of next 5 years. It sets a high-level agenda for the University to develop capacity ensuring significant contributions towards student development programmes. It paved the path to work effectively with other institutions and organizations, where such partnerships can lead to outstanding research and teaching. Adding another feather to its cap, Kaziranga University announced its association with IBM to introduce IBM Mentored B.Tech(CSE) programme which will give an added advantage to the students in finding gainful employment in MNCs.
