Blindness and vision impairment place a significant economic burden on families, communities, and society. About 85% of all vision impairment and 75% of blindness globally could be avoided, prevented or cured if properly trained personnel and care facilities existed. As a result of failed guidance millions of children and adults are losing out on educational and productive opportunities. Individuals and families are being pushed into a cycle of deepening poverty because of their eyesight.
Optometry is a profession that deals with eyes and related structures, visual systems, and vision information processing in humans.

Apollo Medskills is a medical skills development institute in India. It was set up in the year 2012 as a joint venture between Apollo Hospitals and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) as part of setting up training institutes across the country to train and upgrade the skills and quality of hospital workforce across the country.
