Webinar on "Social Work Skills 21st Century" organised by Department of Social Work, School of Social Sciences, The Assam Kaziranga University

The Department of Social Work, School of Social Sciences, The Assam Kaziranga University, Jorhat, Assam, organised a webinar on "Social Work Skills in 21st Century" on 13th November 2021 through the virtual platform. The primary objective of the webinar was to discuss social work skills in the modern world. The key speaker of the webinar was Dr Rajeev M M, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work, School of Social Sciences in the Central University, Rajasthan. 

The webinar started at 11 AM with around 70 students and faculty members of the School of Social Sciences, KU. Ms Suneha Borah, - a student of 3rd semester MSW, moderated the webinar. Prof. (Dr) Chandra Kanta Gogoi, Dean of School of Social Sciences, The Assam Kaziranga University, delivered the welcome address. Mr Harikrishnan U, Assistant Professor and faculty coordinator of the webinar presented the esteemed speaker's brief profile. 

The speaker started the webinar by briefly enlightening the students about the history of social work, professional skills and various –sub-skills related to social work and their importance in the 21st century. The webinar covered the following topics in detail -

  • Technical or advanced skills related to social work,
  • Reflection on skills, knowledge building and capacity in social work practice.
  • Connection of social work practices in a holistic way and multidisciplinary approach in the 21st century.

It was an interactive session where the students raised questions related to social work skills and their connection with ethnicity, and how to upgrade one's knowledge and abilities etc. Prof. (Dr) Chandra Kanta Gogoi Dr Golak Bihari Patra, Ms Bandana Thakur (Faculties of School of Social Sciences) also expressed their reflection and experiences on the said topic. The session ends up with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms Suneha Borah, the student coordinator of the webinar.
