Debate competition on "Regional disputes - a hindrance toward socio-economic development of the Nation" organised by the School of Social Sciences

A debate competition was organised by School of Social Sciences, Assam Kaziranga University on 1st April on the topic of "Regional disputes - a hindrance toward socio-economic development of the Nation". The competition was conducted  at the university auditorium from 11am to 3pm. It  started with a welcome address by Prof (Dr) Chandra Kanta Gogoi, Dean School of Social Sciences where he highlighted the importance of a debate competition and encouraged the students to put forward their constructive views on the given topic. The Registrar of the university, Dr A Sri Hari Krishana, also highlighted the importance of constructive debates on socially relevant topics, and encouraged the participants present in the auditorium. There were a total of  38 participants joining in  from all the six schools of the university. Dr Saurabhi Sarmah and Mr Bishnu Gogoi were the judges of the event along with Mr. Rajiv Saha (SET), Dr Golak Patra (SSS), Alhi Wancha (SHS) and Dr Sarfaraz Ahmed (SBS) as jury members.

 

Voting for and against the motions, all members of the participating team expressed their constructive viewpoints on the given topic in the presence of faculty members and students of various schools. The debate competition came to end with Mr  Durlab Deka, a student of SET 8th semester winning the title of best debater while Mr Tarun Khulal, a student of SET 4th semester and Ms Laxmi Sinha of SHS 4th semester were the first and second runner ups respectively.  Lastly the Consolidation award was bagged by Ms Banani Das, a student of SSS 6th semester. The winners of the competition  were given trophies and certificates. Besides, participatory certificates were given to all the participants. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Sneha Bhomick Gogoi, faculty coordinator of this debate competition. The event was a great success with the support and cooperation received from the school of social sciences, students from different schools and the university administration.
